Review: Tokyo Police Club @ Schubas
Last night at Schubas, Toronto's Tokyo Police Club played to a sold out crowd that even they seemed to be surprised by. ("There are so many people here.") Beginning the set with mostly new material and working their way into A Lesson in Crime, their short bursting songs came off as hits or misses. Singer Dave Monks did his best with a voice in its last week of a big tour, but their unpolished indie-rock sound was the evening's main draw. With enough good songs for one of this year's surprise EPs, it is yet to be determined if Tokyo Police Club has legs or is just another indistinguishable flavor of the month.
