Yes, Peace Fest Happening
According to an email from organizer Michael Patrick, the “Power to the Peaceful” festival will be happening in Chicago. “It most certainly is happening. . . most of our press has been very underground. Kind of artist for artist sake kind of thing,” said Patrick. This grass-roots, separate and smaller version of the original San Francisco Festival will happen next weekend, September 28 and 29. Proceeds will go to Amnesty International.
Next year, the group hopes to officially associate with the SF Fest.
According to their MySpace page, events include:
“Friday Night @ The Funky Buddha Lounge and connected Butterfly Social Club will feature a screening of Michael [Franti’s] documentary, Local Green and Grass-Root not for profit and community organizations, Iraqi Anti-War Veteran Guest Speakers, Conscious Hip-Hop bands Blah, Blah, Blah, The Innervisionists, and Harlett Star, and Reggae DJ Pappa G. Saturday will feature a community soccer pick-up game, a family meal prior to the show, Michael [Franti’s] concert, and post-concert afterparty / jam session / open mic at Chicago's longest running Saturday Night Open Stage at Weed's Bar. A independent documentary about America's open mics and musicians has already signed on to film Saturday night as one of their only Chicago stops.”
