Lolla Notes

radiohead cta shirt.jpg

• Reader Alia pointed out that Radiohead's Colin Greenwood was wearing a vintage CTA t-shirt onstage, as seen on the screen behind the band, above. See more in the official Lollapalooza photo gallery.

312 Dining Diva details the ill-fated "official" afterparty that was to feature Perry Ferrell and Deadmau5.

• Barack Obama was widely rumored to be joining Kanye West onstage to close out the weekend, but in the end he didn't show.

• Things took a turn for the worse during the Rage Against the Machine show; DeRogatis has a good write-up of the mayhem.

• Slash made a couple guest appearances with Perry Farrell, first in his DJ set and then again on the Kidz stage along with Farrell's wife and Samantha Ronson. The latter suffered technical problems, but led to a crowd-rousing version of "Jane Says."

Time Out gave the "worst stage banter" award to G. Love.

Lindsay Lohan Turns Out For Samantha Ronson Lollapalooza DJ Set

Soon it was showtime for Sam – decked out in an Average White Band t-shirt and a fedora
“Special guest” took on a whole different meaning when that guest was revealed to be none other than her ubiquitous gal pal, Lindsay Lohan. When we arrived to an already packed dance tent, were escorted into a predictably cluster f— of a backstage area, under a searing afternoon sun, and got even more of a celeb eyefull than we were expecting. There was Perry on stage, in a glittery black and white number, spinning and pumping up the crowd for his ‘guest DJ.’ There was LiLo, hanging with a friend and trying not to pay attention to the fact that everyone in the area was looking at her. There was Samantha, waiting to go on. And then there was the even better known member of the Ronson family, DJ and uber producer brother Mark, an attention magnet himself. And to throw a certifiable rock god into the mix, Slash — yet another surprise guest for Perry to spring on the crowd.

"Slash made a couple guest appearances with Perry Farrell, first in his DJ set and then again on the Kidz stage along with Farrell's wife and Samantha Ronson. The latter suffered technical problems, but led to a crowd-rousing version of "Jane Says.""

Actually, the technical issues happened in the DJ tent called "Perry's" - as did the appearance of Etty Farrell and Samantha Ronson with Perry and Slash. The Kidzapalooza (Kidz stage) performance had no tech issues at all and featured Perry with Slash and the School of Rock All Stars where they played "Mountain Song", "Superstition", "Knockin' on Heaven's Door" and "Jane Says" ... and it ROCKED!!

It's a Long Way To the Top: Chicago Music Interns (Part 1)

By Dan Morgridge

The music industry primarily runs off of the hopes and dreams of millions of kids wanting to be in a rock and roll band. Its slightly lesser known secondary source of fuel is the hopes and dreams of kids who at least want to work in a rock and roll business. All over Chicago, businesses large and small find interns knocking on their door - students, career-changers, hobbyists, and more. Transmission sits down to talk to some of them about where they're coming from, where they want to go, and what fun manual labor they've performed along on the way.
