UPDATED: Contest for Field Music
After Peter and David Brewis's Field Music became a company (their words) more than just a band in 2007, its members dabbled in side projects like the prog-influenced the Week that Was and School of Language. Even though both had their own identities, the Field Music name was still attached to them when albums were released and tours made the rounds. (In March, the Week that Was turned in an excellent set at the Empty Bottle.) For a time it was assumed that Field Music's divine indie-pop (in the vein of Apples in Stereo or a more sparse XTC) would be held to just two proper albums and a hodgepodge of B-sides and rarities. However, as creative types are wont to do, the Brewis brothers couldn't just let Field Music go and so they've resurrected the band for a 2010 comeback.
In February, they'll release a 20-track double album that pulls inspiration from a wider range of music than they've ever displayed before. As a small treat to the US, the band visits for just two dates - in New York tonight, and Saturday at Beat Kitchen. Thanks to Transmission's friends at House Call, you can see this show for free. Be the first to email "MEASURE" to contests@gapersblock.com to win a pair of tickets for Field Music. We have a winner. Congratulations, Oscar.
Chicago bands Sleep Out and Canasta open for Field Music at Beat Kitchen on Saturday. The show begins at 9:30PM for ages 17+ and admission is $12. Beat Kitchen is located at 2100 W. Belmont. Well, forget that. This Field Music venture to the US has been postponed until next year.
