Lollapalooza Artist Preview: Beirut
If a fairytale was set in the Gulag, the band Beirut would be the perfect soundtrack. Evoking both a breezy sound mixed with Eastern European touches, Beirut has popularized their own brand of old-meets-new indie pop.
Originally a solo project of Zach Condon's, the group has grown to include a multitude of instruments to create the lush sound. Condon is able to craft track after track full of whimsy and wonder, a classic old world sound. Clear contemporaries in sound are Yann Tiersen and the writing styles of Neutral Milk Hotel.
Gapers Block actually sat down and chatted with some of the members of Beirut when they played Pitchfork Music Festival a few years ago. Make sure to check it out before catching Beirut at Lollapalooza 2011.
Also check out the video for Beirut's lovely "Elephant Gun" below.
In the next few weeks we'll be previewing Lollapalooza artists, along with other notable sites, to gear up for the festival. Check back in to learn about some of the artist that will be gracing Lollapalooza's stage.
