Lollapalooza Artist Preview: OK Go

okgo119

OK Go sure know how to make a spectacle. Whether it's dancing on treadmills or choreographing a huge rube goldberg for one of their videos, the band is constantly coming up with creative ways to express not only their music, but all their facets of art. And although the band no longer calls Chicago it's home, many of us still remember the days when they were just the house band on This American Life or cutting their teeth around town.

The band early on had a knack for finding a catching sound, churning out their classic 60s pop infused sound with their moderate successful single "Get Over It." The music was catchy, but the band remained an underground hit. All of that would change though, thanks to one little youtube video.

After the release of their second album, Oh No, the band ended up videotaping themselves dancing a choreographed routine in a backyard to their song "A Million Ways." Fans (and newcomers) loved the quirky video, and soon to follow was a video where the band took things to the next level by dancing on treadmills. Fast forward to the band winning a Grammy for the treadmill video, performing it live at the MTV Video Music Awards, and national fame.

While all this was going on, OK Go were quietly duking it out with their label, after not being happy with numerous aspects of how their career was being handled. The band eventually came out on-top in the end, parted ways, and now are on their own independent label. Lead singer Damian Kulash has spoken about creating their own label and how happy they are being an independent band, and they are still creating some of the most innovative and fun music videos today as well. For example, watch their video for their single "White Knuckles" below. The amount of time and effort it takes to shoot each of their videos clearly shows the band loves this avenue of expression for their music.

In the next few weeks we'll be previewing Lollapalooza artists, along with other notable sites, to gear up for the festival. Check back in to learn about some of the artist that will be gracing Lollapalooza's stage.
