'Tis The Season for Concerts That Give Back

It's that time of year again: that holiday-laden time where an emphasis is placed on giving thanks, and giving back to others and the world around us. Enjoying a weekend concert at one of Chicago's most cozy venues is something to be valued immensely, and when the concert benefits a good cause as well, it's an event to celebrate further.

Schubas Tavern will be hosting the 6th annual "Covers for Cover" benefit concert this Saturday evening. Comprised of tribute groups and ensembles, many who have formed solely to perform at this specific benefit, include covers of famous songs originally sung by groups ranging the spectrum from The Violent Femmes to Janet Jackson. The lineup features The Divine Hammers covering music by the Breeders, Permanent Records, who will be playing songs by The Violent Femmes, The Lady Sentinels as Janet Jackson herself, and Miss Fits and the Astro Zombies as The Misfits. Highlighted this year in the evening's lineup is Girl Group Chicago, a 21-member ensemble playing classic '60s women-led ballads, with an attire to match.

The beneficiary non-profit organization this year is Uptown-located Sarah's Circle, which provides support and care for women who are homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless. Providing housing services including a daytime shelter and overnight shelter space that houses up to 50 women, providing three meals per day, individual case management, and educational and wellness sessions are just a snapshot of the services that are provided to these women in need who are welcomed to personalized care from Sarah's Circle.

So not only would you be hearing an awesome rendition of "Blister In The Sun," and perhaps a little "That's The Way Love Goes," but you would also be assisting with transforming the lives of women affected by the often cyclic struggle of homelessness. After all, it is the season of giving, so make sure to take a trip out to Schubas this Saturday for one special evening of music.

Covers for Cover VI will be hosted by Schubas Tavern on Saturday, December 1. The 18+ show begins at 10pm, with tickets costing $10 with the donation of toiletries for Sarah's Circle at the door, or $12 online. Schubas is located at 3159 N. Southport Avenue, (773) 525-2508.
