Scout Niblett and Dope Body Bring Silence and Noise to the Hideout

This Saturday, The Hideout will host Scout Niblett — an eccentric musical pleasure of the highest order. The British singer songwriter offers an interesting blend of painfully beautiful vocals and sparse instrumentation that occasionally transitions to pulse pounding chords. The moments of silence between the notes are as powerful as the crushing arrangements themselves. Niblett has a way of linking these moments together wonderfully, as is evident on her last two albums The Calcination of Scout Niblett and It's Up To Emma. Her fascination with astrology and alchemy lends itself to her rocking guitar work and continually finds its way into her lyrics, evoking otherworldly sensations that deliver on all the right spots.
Joining Scout Niblett is Baltimore's own Dope Body. Their music is a welcome accompaniment to Niblett's, in the form of completely encompassing noise rock. Where Niblett takes a few moments to exalt her voice, Dope Body sends out a nonstop barrage of intensity matched by few others. One can't help but jump around and knock into things while listening to this group's riotous sound. Their second album Natural History brought out a punk sensibility that often thrashes though songs with relentless energy. One gets the feel of the songs right off the bat despite the near overwhelming nature of the band.
These two Drag City artists will be performing at The Hideout (1354 W. Wabansia Ave.) on Saturday, September 21. Doors open at 8pm, with music beginning at 9pm. Tickets are just $10, so don't miss this incredible pairing.
