Record Store Day 2014: Where to Go in Chicago
Seven years down the line, and it feels like Record Store Day comes earlier every year. And maybe it's just because we've barely scratched the surface of the promised warm weather this year in Chicago, but we're really giddy about RSD this year. Getting out of the house? Mingling with other music-minded folks? Rewarding ourselves with new vinyl? Sign us up! So here we are, once again, mapping out stores to visit (and perhaps even mentally rating restaurants nearby to grab a malted beverage at afterwards). If you've made your own wish list of RSD releases, here's where you might want to go to find them:

Chicago Labels
Bloodshot Records
In it's 20th year as an amazing Chicago label, Bloodshot's Lydia Loveless will release a special 7" with a b-side covering Ke$ha's "Blind". See my review in our Record Store Day Wish List. They'll also host artist performances around the country, if you happen to find yourself somewhere other than Chicago this year.
Thrill Jockey Records
From Thrill Jockey:
First, A Minor Forest's two classic albums, Flemish Altruism and Inindependence, will be reissued on vinyl for Record Store Day. Flemish Altruism is being presented with brand new artwork featuring many newly unearthed archival photos and was remastered from the original tapes. The records, which have been out of print for nearly a decade, will be packaged together in a special 4 LP set for Record Store Day and includes both albums in their own gatefold jackets with download cards for the first time.
Second, Glenn Jones' Welcomed Wherever I Go is being released in a limited edition, vinyl-only format for Record Store Day 2014. Welcomed Wherever I Go is a collection of live numbers, one featuring fellow guitarist Cian Nugent, and one forgotten tune recorded, speculatively, during the 2007 sessions for Jack Rose's Dr. Ragtime and His Pals.
And third, Alexander Tucker's self-titled debut was released in a micro-edition on CD-R in 2005, a quiet beginning to a solo career that would establish him as one of Britain's most forward-thinking songwriters and sound sculptors. This incubative work is being pressed on vinyl for the first time ever for Record Store Day 2014, following the acclaim of his duo Grumbling Fur's breakout LP Glynnaestra. The download code that accompanies the release features over 20 minutes of additional material.
Numero Group
Numero Group are once again doing a pop-up shop at Logan Square's Comfort Station (2579 N. Milwaukee Ave.) from 9am-5pm on Saturday. They'll have the whole Numero catalog in stock as well as tons of non-label used stuff, collectibles, etc. Special Numero Group releases for RSD include, Dinosaur Jr. Visitors 5 x 45, South Side Story LP/CD, and Ned Doheny "Get It Up For Love" b/w "What Cha' Gonna Do For Me" 45 (limited to 500, available only at our two pop up stores and in Japan). Full details.
