Shovels & Rope Showcase Their Talents @ The Vic, 10/2
Shovels & Rope's debut album, O Be Joyful, was one of my favorite releases from 2012. The way that they effortlessly crafted their heartfelt folk music immediately draws you in, as the partnership between coupled duo Cary Ann Hearst and Michael Trent reinforces that their meeting was pure destiny, as it allowed them to merge their talents to create such a unique sound.
They've just released their sophomore album, Swimmin' Time, this past August, and it is able to bring their original sound to unprecedented levels of greatness. Approaching their folk tunes from a bit of a darker storytelling angle, the duo is able to present us with a diverse array of tunes that maintains their original sound but adds in a new layer of emotional candor. They've built a career on the pillars of authenticity, as they made their way through musical circuits by touring and gaining popularity merely through word of mouth, and now they have crafted a follow-up album that is able to build upon the successes they began with.
They'll be making their tour stop in Chicago this Thursday evening at the Vic, sure to showcase their talents in front of a full and watchful crowd. Join the group of individuals sure to be beaming from their soulful tunes, which are guaranteed to make us dance, sing along, and feel a little wistful, all at the same time.
Shovels & Rope will be playing The Vic Theater on Thursday, October 2. Tickets are available for $25 with doors opening at 7pm and the show beginning at 8pm. John Fullbright will be the opening act for the show. The Vic is located at 3145 N. Sheffield Avenue, (773) 472-0449.
