Brad Sawicki and Bryan Kveton infuse alternative rock with pop hooks using carefully crafted layers of sound, but they're stripping it down to the bare essentials for one night only.
Sawicki (Ancient Friends) and Kveton (Sunjacket) are coming together for Stars Align, our monthly concert series featuring local artists in collaboration, Thursday, Jan. 15, at 7:30pm at the GMan Tavern, 3740 N. Clark St.
While both are well-established songwriters, their current efforts are pretty recent additions to the scene; Ancient Friends is Sawicki's new solo project, while Sunjacket is a new collaborative effort of several singer-songwriters.
Exactly what their collaboration will sound like is really up to them -- that's part of the magic of Stars Align. But you can definitely hear where the two groups overlap, blending alternative rock and pop sensibilities.
Novmber's Stars Align featured Mike Maimone and Archie Powell, collaborating ahead of their performances at our Holiday Show at the Metro. Their cover of "You've Got a Friend in Me" by Randy Newman was a highlight of the night, even if they were missing a space helmet:
Who knows what will happen when Brad Sawicki and Bryan Kveton come together next month, but the results are always something special that you only get one chance to see live. So join us Thursday, Jan. 15 at 7:30pm at the GMan Tavern, 3740 N. Clark St. Admission is free, and the event is 21+, featuring beer on tap from our sponsor Begyle Brewing.
