An Evening of Rock Splendor @ House of Blues, 2/25
Alright, Chicagoans, it's time to step out of the arctic tundra that we live in currently, and treat yourself to something joyful this week. Defrost your heavy hearts and enjoy some quality music, something that reminds you of the happier times, the warmer times.
Wednesday evening at House of Blues presents us with a musical smorgasbord to feast on, laden with summery rock bands perfect for allowing us to pretend we are not in the throes of winter, just for one evening. Curated by 101WKQX, a station committed to introducing listeners to up-and-coming, fresh music with its Queued Up series, the Queued Up Artist Series show will feature four emerging bands to introduce fans new and old to their diverse and standout musical offerings.
Waters will headline, with the support of I Fight Dragons, Ballroom Boxer, and The Island of Misfit Toys. With a high-octane sound, Waters is set to release their second full length album, and their latest release since 2011, on April 7. Their 2014 EP, It All Might Be OK, combines rollicking bass riffs with beautifully-harmonized vocals, and indicates that the musical direction they are traversing is a glorious one.
Though each act brings with it its own unique talent, make sure to arrive early to catch Ballroom Boxer's set. This five-piece indie rock outfit has made sure to get their name out and tour around the city with various groups, allowing them to become a revered local act. From Lollapalooza after shows, to SXSW, to touring with The Whigs and supporting the Gaslight Anthem, their summery sound is one that is not to be missed. When taking a listen to their latest EP Sundownr, I'm able to recall what life is like when my surroundings are not encased in ice, and delight in unequivocally perfect summertime memories. From "Where The Bottles Dance," which features a languid and meandering blues vibe, to the refreshing "American Bonfire," they will no doubt bring a high-energy set that will make you forget all about your winter blues.
Tickets are under $15 without fees, and can be purchased via House of Blues. House of Blues is located at 329 N. Dearborn Street, (312) 923-2000.
