100% Off Bands at Schubas - Showcasing Local Talent

100OffBands.jpg

You can't argue with free and Schubas knows it. The venue started putting on free shows for local bands back in February, with $2 rolling rock, $5 vodka cocktail specials and $5 "rock and shot" combos to encourage people to come out. In a city teeming with local talent, this is a great way to get a little exposure to the overwhelming number of Chicago bands.

I finally made it out to one last week at Schubas and it did not disappoint. Not only were there cheap drinks, good company and great local bands but there was also a surprise appearance by the Orwells! (Top billing for the show had been listed as "DePaul Women's Basketball Team".)

So go check out dramatic orchestral pop of Scout Ripley, the harmonic folk strummings of Y La Bamba and the alt-country musings of Keith Campbell tonight or the beats of Brian Fresco on Wednesday. You never know who you'll wind up seeing. Also, did I mention they're free?

Monday March 23rd 8pm - Scout Ripley, Y La Bamba, Keith Campbell
Wednesday March 25th 8pm - Brian Fresco, Bonelang, Cae Jones, Bernie Levv
Monday April 6th 8pm - Alexander Webb
Monday April 13th 8pm - Miles Tackett

All shows are free -- just RSVP at Schubas' website. Schubas is located at 3159 N Southport Ave.
