The Delta Saints Perform at Beat Kitchen on 8/20
The Nashville band The Delta Saints released their bluesy record Bones on August 7 on Loud & Proud Records. Since the release, they've started a tour in the States and they will spend most of autumn in Europe after August. They play on Thursday, August 20 at the Beat Kitchen in Roscoe Village for $12 with Matt Keen's Rebel Soul Revival and the Chicago-based Hidden Hospitals.
Hence their name, The Delta Saints borrow much from the Mississippi acoustic blues, but they also electrify it up with familiar bar rock. The Black Keys come to mind with their garage rock delivery as well as Led Zeppelin's psychedelica and slide guitar solos. They play swamp rock to jungle beats.
As a band started by drinking buddies, they've done well enough to have their record produced and mixed by Edie Spear (who has worked with diverse rock artists from Jack White to Neil Young to the Arctic Monkeys).
On Bones, they sound loose enough with bourbon, and their resonator guitar, organ, and slide guitar make the ensemble sound natural to hear at a bar venue like Beat Kitchen. They play gritty and amplified rock 'n' roll that howls far back to its rural roots. Given their tight rhythms and blues melodies, it's saintly music for sinners.
