The Non-Riot Fest After Riot Fest Show
If you like your garage rock with a healthy dollop of power pop and you haven't seen Mikal Cronin in Chicago this year, you may need to remedy that this weekend. In June, he and his band played back-to-back nights at Subterranean and Green Music Fest. This weekend they return to the Empty Bottle. Cronin's southern California roots lay a base for the breezy melodies in his tunes, but it's the super catchy big guitar riffs that keep ears on alert. His latest album MCIII is yet another excellent showcase of jangly pop songs, and with a second half that sounds as emotional as anything he's done. And while he seems like a very pleasant person, when he gets locked in on stage, he's ferocious.
Mikal Cronin headlines the Empty Bottle on Sunday, September 13. Calvin Love and the Cairo Gang open. It's 21+ and $15. The Empty Bottle's at 1035 N. Western.

Mikal Cronin's facebook feed/bandsintown lists this as being at Thalia Hall.
Who's right? I've tried asking both EB and MC (via FB), and neither have answered.
