All About Leonard Bernstein
Looking for some classical music performances in your life? Well, look no further, as this weekend will bring about an excellent opportunity to enjoy classical music merged with the art of great film.
Leonard Bernstein, notable composer for well-known films including West Side Story, On The Town, and many more, will be showcasing the score to On The Waterfront as it plays on Friday, October 23 at 8pm, backed by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. Award-winning conductor Richard Kaufman will be there to conduct the score, as one of three remaining films for the year as part of the CSO at the Movies series, which has been beloved since 2004.
On The Waterfront, the turbulent 1954 film starring Marlon Brando, features a dramatic soundtrack capturing the deliberate film noir style. The score garnered an Academy Award nomination, as well as much acclaim.
On October 24 and 25 at 7:30pm, the debut of the CSO Beyond The Score series for the 2015/2016 season begins with Bernstein in New York City, a new composition that entwines Bernstein's identity within New York City with a gorgeous performance from the orchestra. The second half of the show allows listeners to bask in familiar favorites, including the Overture to Candide, and the Symphonic Dances from West Side Story.
