The Many Moods (and members) of Wolf Eyes @ Enemy
Those of you who make a point of never missing a live show by underground titans Wolf Eyes will be interested to know that tonight, Enemy (1550 N. Milwaukee Ave (3rd Floor), Chicago) will be acting like the venue equivalent of a cyclotron, breaking the trio down into its component elements, each member coming to the show with their own solo or duo project.
Founding member Nate Young (electronics, drum programming, inhuman(e) vocals) appears as Demons, a synth duo with Steve Kenney (of legendary mid-90s Michigan project Isis & the Werewolves); John Olson (electronics, reeds, gong, pumping fists) appears with his wife Tovah in their long-running duo project Dead Machines, whose discography currently numbers at least 100 recordings; and Mike Connelly (electronics, guitar, backup inhuman(e) vocals), will appear in his solo guise Failing Lights, which, although mutable from record to record, seems to consist largely of Connelly's exploration of a truly sinister and mouldering junk-shop organ. I wouldn't come looking for fist-pumping beats, but be prepared for a pumping fist to be applied to the inside of your brain. These jams may open your eyes and mind to the beauty beyond the void, but be prepared for some redness and swelling at the affected areas. That's a good thing...it means you're healing.
Opening for these three wiley acts will be Chicago's equivalent of Godley & Creme, the duo of Jason Soliday (Coeurl, Gunshop, Enemy founder) and Mark Solotroff (Bloodyminded, the Fortieth Day), as well as uber-workhorse Vertonen. $5 at the door, 9 p.m. sharp. There also may be a raffle, proceeds from which will go to Nate Young's brother Pete, who was recently injured severely when his house burned down, and who is without health insurance.
