Biggest Mouth: Campus Clash Preview: Columbia College

Biggest Mouth blue.jpgThe Biggest Mouth: Campus Clash talent contest takes place tomorrow night at Metro and will put finalists from Columbia College, DePaul University and Roosevelt University up against each other to find out "who has the biggest mouth in Chicago."

As promised, we at Gapers Block: Transmission are giving you a preview of what to expect from tomorrow nights performers. First up: the contestants from Columbia College:

Robot in Glasses.jpgWho: Marcus Harris aka Bullet aka Mr. Robotic

What: Pop/Electro/Hip-Hop

How: Mr. Robotic was born on planet Jupiter beamed down to Chicago at a young age.

Why: He was named ASCAP songwriter of the week and also had a song placement on a television show on MTV.


Walrus

walrus.jpgWho: Aaron Goldschmidt, Daniel Schein, Tim Young, and Colin Carroll

What: indie/pop rock

Why: From Chicago, they have been playing around the city and the Midwest for the last year and a half. They are currently writing a new EP.

Who: Lee Howard, Jonathan McReynolds and Nico Rubio

What: A mix of tap dancing and singing

How & Why: The trio has been working on their craft separately for six plus years.


B.I.G. H.E.A.D.
Who: Tony Denis

What: Fusion between spoken word poetry, elements of hip-hop mixed with folk music

How & Why: His area of expertise is poetry and filmmaking. Tuesday's hybrid is entitled, "Good Mourning."

What: R&B/Hip-Hop/Jazz

How & Why: "Born in New York, raised in Chicago, I bring the mix east coast grittiness with the smoothness of the Midwest. My style is my own, original and full of charisma and sex appeal for the ladies. "


Biggest Mouth: Campus Clash takes place Tuesday, May 5. The show starts at 6:30pm and tickets are free. The Metro is located at 3730 N. Clark St. 18 & up.

Maybe they do, maybe they don't, Raquel. But doing a tribute to J.J. Fad's "Supersonic" -- which he does -- proly counts as electro.

She's Money

When talking musical influences with Helen Money, it's easy to forget her instrument of choice: cello. She references Bob Mould's Beaster, with its wall of sound and intense, thought-obliterating guitar work. She speaks of The Who and all the crazy rock bands she was exposed to in the '80s. "The stuff I like sounds like life or death," she reasons. And this coming from a woman with a picture of Jimi Hendrix taped to her cello case like he's a saint.
