Record Dive on Broadway

recklessdumpsterdive.jpg

It's not every day you see a bunch of hipsters crawling around in a dumpster, but that was the scene this Saturday as Reckless Records threw out mountains of old records and other random detritus from years in their Broadway location. The new store is located at 3126 N. Broadway, just a bit south of the old spot at 3161.

Ha ha. The dumpster behind Reckless has always been repository like that. Radio station personnel and various folks always go there to unload heaps of promos, misc CDs & records, and unlistenable demos & such; and whatever the store doesn't take they heave in the alley dumpster after exiting. But I expect on this day it proly sported greater yields than usual.

And I dunno about "hipsters;" but once upon a time, dumpster diving used to be a routine punk-rock activity.

She's Money

By Kara Luger

When talking musical influences with Helen Money, it's easy to forget her instrument of choice: cello. She references Bob Mould's Beaster, with its wall of sound and intense, thought-obliterating guitar work. She speaks of The Who and all the crazy rock bands she was exposed to in the '80s. "The stuff I like sounds like life or death," she reasons. And this coming from a woman with a picture of Jimi Hendrix taped to her cello case like he's a saint.
