Pitchfork Festival Announces Additional Acts

pitchfork2013.jpg

Pitchfork Music Festival has announced their second wave of acts to play this year, joining the already impressive headliners of Björk, R. Kelly and Belle & Sebastian. The additions are a good mix of both up-and-coming acts and already established artists. The day-to-day breakdown so far is as follows:

Friday
Björk
Joanna Newsom
Angel Olsen
Trash Talk

Saturday
Belle & Sebastian
The Breeders play Last Splash
Rustie
Swans
...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead
Mac DeMarco

Sunday
R. Kelly
Chairlift
TNGHT
Sky Ferreira
Killer Mike
El-P
Foxygen
Tree

Personally I'm excited for the hip hop acts that the festival is adding. We're already fans of El-P here at Gapers Block, and his show with Killer Mike was a highlight of live shows I saw last year. Throw in local MC Tree and producer duo TNGHT and the festival already has a solid foundation as being one of my favorite festival spots to check out hip hop.

Other acts I'm excited to see included the ever enjoyable Chairlift, a band whose sound is perfect to listen to while lounging in the shade on a hot summer day. ...And You Will Know Us By the Trail of Dead will deliver an intense show as always, and last but not least is the addition of The Breeders playing Last Splash, which personally I'm more excited to see than the headliners Saturday night. Any girl that grew up in the '90s probably wanted to be as cool as Kim Deal at one point or another, myself no exception. It's another great album for a summer festival setting, and it's bring back the format of having a band play a full album at Pitchfork, which I really miss from some of their earlier festivals.

Another two dozen bands are still to be announced, but already the lineup is well worth the ticket price. Surprisingly three day passes have not sold out. You can purchase them here for $120 or single day tickets for $50. Pitchfork Festival is Friday July 19th-Sunday July 21st in Union Park.
