Preview: Anberlin @ The Bottom Lounge, 3/14
There's a chance you've never heard of Anberlin before, but that hardly means they're "new." What started as a Florida punk-roots band has become a highly sophisticated rock act over the past decade. It's simply been a matter of finding their footing.
The title of Anberlin's most recent album, Vital, shouldn't be taken lightly. It's a key release in their body of work that now consists of six full lengths. When Anberlin first formed, the band sounded more like a lot of early 2000s "post-punk" alternative bands: fast, riff-heavy guitar with angsty yet melodic vocals. However, it soon became apparent that singer Stephen Christian's voice transcended the genre. Since then the band has (at times awkwardly) straddled the line between loud, in-your-face rock and roll and soft sounds with heavy pop influences. They've finally found the perfect balance on Vital. After following the band's career since their early days, it's a cheer-worthy effort.
They'll be performing tracks from this record (and their others) at the Bottom Lounge this Thursday night (March 14). Tickets are sold out. So, if you're weren't already planning on going, take this as a simple suggestion: Spotify the album and catch them the next time they're in town. Though they're more than ten years deep in the game, with so much momentum behind them, they probably won't be getting off the road any time soon.
