Preview: Survival Knife at Subterranean Nov. 14
Unwound never really died. Yeah, the band called it quits years ago and everyone involved left to embark on all sorts of new adventures, but the legacy of Unwound lives on. The latest manifestation of Unwound's legacy is a band playing at Subterranean this coming Friday: Survival Knife.
Survival Knife formed in the early part of this decade and spent their infancy touring with bands such as Metz and the late Bitch Magnet during their recent reunion tour. Last year, they released their debut 7" on the seminal tastemaker label, Sub Pop, and toured the pacific northwest in support of it.
Earlier this year, they recorded and released their debut full album, Loose Power and are about to head out on a nationwide tour. With Loose Power, Survival Knife find themselves exploring classic college radio rock, developing a sound influenced by bands such as Pavement. It's a really solid album. Check out a stream of their single, "Divine Mob" below.
Opening for Survival Knife is Pink Avalanche, a local indie band touring in support of their new album, Wriaths. Led by guitarist Che Arthur, Pink Avalanche have created a love letter to Chicago bands that came before them such as Cap'n Jazz. Check out the video for their single "In Empty Spaces" below.
Survival Knife plays this Friday night, Nov. 14, at Subterranean, 2011 W North Ave. This is a 17+ show and doors are at 10pm with things getting started around 10:30. Pink Avalanche and Hungry Ghost both fill out the lineup. If you're into it, tickets are $12 and can be grabbed here.
