Yo La Tengo Reunites with Original Lead Guitarist Dave Schramm for an Acoustic Evening @ The Vic, 11/5
It may be 70 degrees out, but it's still time to pull out your autumn sweaters because indie veterans Yo La Tengo return to Chicago after releasing their fourteenth studio album, Stuff Like That There.
This, of course, is not counting their 12 EPs, 14 singles, an album of covers, one film score, and a collaborative album with Jad Fair of Half Japanese. The prolific group formed in 1984 by the husband and wife Ira Kaplan and Georgia Hubley, who bonded over a shared love of music. Since then, they've swung between melodic pop to feedback-driven noise, filling each record with references about anything from the Simpsons to a Whit Stillman film.
Following their debut LP Ride the Tiger in 1986, their lead guitarist Dave Schramm left to form the band the Schramms. Though he reappeared in 1990 to contribute to Fakebook, it had been nearly 20 years without the three of them performing in the same band. But he reunited with Yo La Tengo this year, and they'll be performing an extended acoustic set.
The group is known for its covers, and it's probably safe to anticipate at least a few this Thursday. Catch them for a special acoustic tour at the Vic. The doors will open at 8 pm, and tickets cost $21.50, which are available here.
