Biggest Mouth: Campus Clash Preview: DePaul University

Biggest Mouth green.jpgThe Biggest Mouth: Campus Clash talent contest takes place tonight at Metro and puts finalists from Columbia College, DePaul University and Roosevelt University up against each other to find out "who has the biggest mouth in Chicago."

Now that you've already had a look at the finalists from Columbia College and Roosevelt University, let's meet some of the contestants from DePaul:

Crete

crete.jpgWho: Socrates Kaitson-guitar and vocals; Joe Kopecky-keyboards and vocals; Jon Newton-drums; Joe Gattone-bass

What: Pop Rock

Why: They have been playing together for three years and have played at US Celluar Field and Six Flags Great America. Last year they won the Lake County Fair Battle of the Bands. Tonight they will be playing the song "Can't Stop This Feeling."


Adil Issakoo & Brandon Rizzo
Who: Adlil Issakoo and Brandon Rizzo

How: The duo met through Brandon's girlfriend who heard Adlil playing guitar in their residence hall and the rest in history. Adlil and Brandon have been writing music together for a year now and will be performing their song "Spontaneously" tonight.

Why: Campus Clash will be their first show together, and while they represent DePaul, Brandon is actually a student at competing Columbia College. They will be joined on stage by Brandon's fellow Fly Phoenix band members--drummer Ben Cofresi and bassist T Berry.

Biggest Mouth: Campus Clash takes place Tuesday, May 5. The show starts at 6:30pm and tickets are free. The Metro is located at 3730 N. Clark St. 18 & up.

She's Money

When talking musical influences with Helen Money, it's easy to forget her instrument of choice: cello. She references Bob Mould's Beaster, with its wall of sound and intense, thought-obliterating guitar work. She speaks of The Who and all the crazy rock bands she was exposed to in the '80s. "The stuff I like sounds like life or death," she reasons. And this coming from a woman with a picture of Jimi Hendrix taped to her cello case like he's a saint.
