Despite the economic downturn, the Lakeview area continues to experience considerable development pressure. Smaller buildings like this one are still regularly demolished to make way for larger condominium buildings, which often sit on a much larger footprint than the buildings they replace.
The owner's address listed on the demolition permit, 1632 S. Ashland Ave. in Park Ridge, has been noted as the location of the owner on 10 other Chicago demolition permits since 2006, including 1340 W. George St.

Over the course of 2012 David Schalliol produced a photographic portrait of 100 of the hundreds of buildings threatened with demolition in the city of Chicago.
