Chicago Historic Resources Survey: Not included [?]
Year: 1888
Architect: Unknown
Owner: City of Chicago
Permit Description: Court ordered wreck and remove 1 story brick residence.
Status: Demolition permit issued 5/22/2012
The city issued violations for this building's open and derelict status first in December 2008, although it wasn't until 2011 that the building received its first 311 service request. The first request, issued in July 2011, indicated that people were using the building while the second, in January, simply indicated that the building was open and vacant. Two sanitation code violation requests related to garbage were submitted in between the two.
The 2700 W. Gladys Block Club celebrated the demolition of the building, and even photographed the demolition process.
Over the course of 2012 David Schalliol produced a photographic portrait of 100 of the hundreds of buildings threatened with demolition in the city of Chicago. Nearly all of the buildings have since been demolished. Visit the background information section for more information about the project, including definitions and links to other building resources.
The series is supported by a generous grant from the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.
