Neighbors living in new construction buildings to the east anxiously asked if the house would be demolished soon. They said it had been"bringing down the neighborhood" since its owner passed away "about a year ago." It was subsequently reported as vacant in the 311 database on January 11 and July 19, 2011, as well as April 25. Still, the building looks nearly the same it did in 2007.
Over the course of 2012 David Schalliol produced a photographic portrait of 100 of the hundreds of buildings threatened with demolition in the city of Chicago. Nearly all of the buildings have since been demolished. Visit the background information section for more information about the project, including definitions and links to other building resources.
