To be Demolished

4013 W. Arthington St.

Chicago Historic Resources Survey: Not included [?]
Year: 1906
Architect: Unlisted
Owner: City of Chicago
Permit Description: Wreck & remove 2 story brick building.
Status: Demolition permit issued 2/17/2012

Additional Details

Like with many buildings on the South and West Sides, this building underwent significant changes before being added to the demolition permit list. Among other changes, a major renovation was conducted before the building was listed in the MLS in 2005. At the time, the listing stated that "All Units Rented To Sect. 8 Tenants." A foreclosure victim, it last sold for nearly $365,000 in 2006 -- more than three times more than comparable buildings are today.

The building was the subject of 311 calls regarding its open and vacant status on January 7, 2011 and June 7, 2011. In each case, the caller reported people were using the property.

About the series

Over the course of 2012 David Schalliol produced a photographic portrait of 100 of the hundreds of buildings threatened with demolition in the city of Chicago. Nearly all of the buildings have since been demolished. Visit the background information section for more information about the project, including definitions and links to other building resources.

The series is supported by a generous grant from the Richard H. Driehaus Foundation.
